of the programme:
Marine Biotechnology is emerging as a new field in the general Biotechnology Curriculum. B.Tech- Marine Biotechnology encompasses various marine oriented theoretical and technological topics such as Marine Resources, Marine Biodiversity, Marine Bioenergy, Sea Food Technology, Fishery Biotechnology, Immuno-Technology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Molecular Modeling and Drug Designing, Stem Cells and Cancer Biology, Recombinant DNA Technology, Bioinformatics, Biophysics Engineering, Enzyme Technology, Nanotechnology, Bioseparation and Downstream processing , Marine Bioremediation, Aquaculture, Pharmacology, Enterpremourship etc in the programme. Marine Biotechnology is the newly framed curriculum wherein emphasis is made towards exploitation of marine organisms as a source to formulate new biomaterials and bioproducts of commercial value.
The Ocean, which is called the �Mother of origin of life�, is also the source of structurally unique natural products that are mainly accumulated in living organisms. Several of these compounds show pharmacological activities and are helpful for the invention and discovery of bioactive compounds, primarily for deadly diseases like cancer, acquired immuno-deficiency syndrome (AIDS), arthritis, etc., while other compounds have been developed as analgesics or to treat inflammation, etc. Modern technologies have opened vast areas of research for the extraction of biomaterials and bioactive natural products from Marine Bioresources, which are having wide applications in processing / manufacturing industries, food / feed industries, Environmental bioremediation, diagnostic tools, biofuels, agriculture etc.
It is going to to be a unique academic programme to train and specialize the students in this emerging technology based education. As the Department is at present having MOU with several Biotech and pharma companies and collaborations with several research institutes and laboratories of the country and also with Overseas Counterparts, students will have ample opportunities to work within India and Overseas.

A pass in Plus-two (12th Standard) or its equivalent, with minimum 50% Marks for OC and 45% Marks for others aggregate in Maths, Physics and Chemistry and Biology Group from any recognized Board. |
