Celebrating Maritime Excellence at AGMS 2024 and AGMA 2024

The AMET Global Maritime Summit (AGMS 2024) and AMET Global Maritime Awards (AGMA 2024) were successfully conducted on July 2, 2024, at the prestigious Anna Centenary Library Auditorium in Chennai, India. This second edition of the annual event, hosted by the Dr. J Ramachandran Maritime Foundation and AMET University, drew over 1,250 global participants from maritime, logistics, academic, and policy circles. The event reflects the enduring vision of Dr. J. Ramachandran, Founder-Chancellor of AMET University, whose legacy of excellence in maritime education continues to guide AMET’s transformative role in the global maritime landscape.

Summit Overview and Participation
AGMS 2024, centered around the theme “Charting the Future of Maritime Excellence”, provided a dynamic platform for exchange of insights on innovation, education, sustainability, and strategic growth in the maritime sector.
The summit began with a welcome address by Col. Dr. G. Thiruvasagam, Pro-Chancellor (Academics), AMET University and Member-Secretary, Dr. J Ramachandran Maritime Foundation.
The event was presided over by Dr. J Ramachandran, Founder-Chancellor, AMET University.
The inaugural address was delivered by Shri Shyam Jagannathan, IAS, Director General of Shipping and Additional Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India.

Special addresses were delivered by:
Dr. Rajesh Ramachandran, Pro-Chancellor, AMET University
Prof. Adam Weintrit, Chair, International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) and Rector, Gdynia Maritime University
Prof. Dr. V Rajendran, Vice Chancellor, AMET University

Panel Discussions, Fireside Chat & Technical Sessions
The summit featured two high-level panel discussions, a fireside chat, and multiple technical sessions covering current themes in the maritime domain.

The technical sessions were coordinated by Dr. Sangeetha Albin, Convener of AGMS 2024 and Additional Registrar, AMET University. Over 70 research and lead articles were presented by professionals and academicians on topics such as Maritime Education, Technology Innovation, Sustainability, and Management.

AGMA 2024 – Awards and Recognition
The AMET Global Maritime Awards (AGMA 2024) formed a key highlight of the event, honoring distinguished individuals and institutions for their contributions to the maritime sector.

The Valedictory Ceremony was graced by His Excellency Mr. Haymandoyal Dillum, CSK, High Commissioner, High Commission of the Republic of Mauritius, who served as Chief Guest and presented the AGMA Awards 2024.

A commendation address was delivered by Dr. J Ramachandran, followed by a vote of thanks by Dr. Deepa Rajesh, Vice President (Academics), AMET University and Convener, AGMA 2024.

Conclusion
With its second edition, the AMET Global Maritime Summit and Awards have firmly positioned themselves as premier annual international forums recognizing excellence and driving strategic dialogue in the maritime sector. Anchored in the visionary legacy of Dr. J. Ramachandran, the event continues to foster collaboration among industry leaders, academicians, policymakers, and students—paving the way for a more sustainable, inclusive, and technologically driven maritime future.
