ametunivAMET Alumni Association

AMET is a University that specializes in maritime and marine studies. AMET cadets and students are deployed all over the world and hold prominent positions. They disseminate AMET's strength and knowledge around the world. The main components for improving an educational institution's reputation are its curriculum, teaching, learning and evaluation procedures, research and development initiatives, infrastructure, sound governance, and creative and best practices. Another crucial element, though adds strength and expansion to the institution's reputation and advancement and simply needs encouragement and support. Alumni associations are traditionally defined as groups of graduates or, more generally, former students. The University's alumni association makes students feel obligated and honoured to repay the favours and achievements, and the alma mater benefits and grows significantly in terms of academics and administration on a national and worldwide scale.

AMET has created AMET Alumni Associations after realizing this fundamental truth. AMET is a 31-year-old institution with a strong alumni base. From the first batch of students (14 in 1993), alumni relationships and references are kept up to date. AMET has a good tradition of bringing our renowned alumni as Chief Guests to various University activities, and they are duly honoured. Alumni contacts are developed at these events, which has improved the University's academic environment and significantly increased student placement in shipping businesses.

However, the AMET Alumni Association, a legally recognized organization, has replaced this long-standing practice. Our Founder President and Board of Management Member, Dr. J. Ramachandran, suggested the creation of the AMET Alumni Association during the Board of Management meeting that took place at AMET University on 4.4.2008. On April 24, 2008, Mr. S. Rengaraju, HOD, HND-Marine Engineering, was first proposed as the AMET Alumni Association's Coordinator and started the official alumni registration process.

The AMET Alumni Association has been coordinated by Prof. Bhoopathy Bhaskaran of Marine Engineering since March 3, 2013. Since then, the AMET Alumni Association has established a dedicated website for the association, affectionately known as A3, and has formally regularized with suitable office bearers. The Tamilnadu Societies Registration Rules of 1978 were followed in the registration of the AMET Alumni Association. On October 6, 2015, the Tamilnadu Societies Registration Act 1975 (Tamil Nadu Act 27 of 1975) granted a certification of registration under clause 10. We have at present more than 10,000 successful registered alumni in our Alumni Portal.
