Climate change and management of natural and manmade disasters are the two important and interconnected fields of study.

Programme Duration : 3 Years (Six semesters)

Salient features

The various natural processes of Earth and manmade activities which affects the climate and also bring disasters need to be studied together. B.Sc., Climate Studies and Disaster Management is an interdisciplinary super-specialty programme which has amalgamated the natural and social sciences, medicine and the arts in understanding and responding for disasters and climate change.

This could would provide basic knowledge of the natural disasters such as Earthquake, volcano, landslide, tsunami, cyclones, floods, climate change and sea level rise and manmade disasters like nuclear accidents, acute air pollutions and other disasters like disease outbreaks. The programme would provide basic information on the understanding of global climate and its changes.

Job opportunities

This Programme will provide job opportunities in government and private sectors such as weather stations, disaster management authorities, Ocean information services etc. Every country has multiple levels of climate and disaster management authorities. However, since the Programmes are offered only by limited institutions, the scope for getting jobs in India and abroad is plenty. Graduates in Climate Studies and Disaster Management can become Risk Management Specialist, chiefs of rescue operations, national safety specialists etc.


Eligibility Criteria

Qualification  

A Pass in Plus-two (12th Standard) or its equivalent, with minimum 50% Marks for OC and 45% Marks for others aggregate in Maths, Physics and Chemistry group and 50% marks in English from any recognized Board. Students from other science groups or groups with Geography are also eligible to apply. An aptitude for field work is necessary.
