Aim

  • To develop the competency required to enable the student to carry out his duties as an Engineer Officer in the Merchant Navy.
  • To provide the student with a qualification which will be accepted by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (UK) as giving exemption from parts of their Marine Engineer Officer Certificates of Competency at Class 2 and Class 1 levels and to satisfy the initial training requirements of the MCA, for entry to Class 4.
  • To satisfy all the requirements laid down by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, the Merchant Navy Training Board and the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers.

Training Pattern

This is a fully residential Programme.

Phase 1: 45 weeks at Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET), Chennai, studying Advanced Diploma units.

Phase 2: 45 weeks at COGC, studying Advanced Diploma units to qualify for the award of a Advanced Diploma in Marine Engineering.

Phase 3: 6 months of sea service to qualify for entry to the MCA 4.

Duration: 2 years

Entry Requirements

Age: Minimum 17 years

Educational Qualification: A pass in plus-two (12th standard) with Maths, Physics and Chemistry as subjects and minimum 50% marks in English language in 10th or 12th standard exam,from any recognized Board.

Medical Standard: Candidates should be physically fit for sea service under standard norms, with eye sight upto 6/12 in both eyes or 6/9 in better eye, 6/18 in other eye and with no colour blindness. The candidate will have to appear in IELTS examination for english proficiency with minimum score of 5.5.
