ametunivDepartment of Chemistry
Programmes Offered
Ph.D

The department of chemistry formulates chemistry syllabus to all the students in such a way that it is applicable in their respective fields. Chemistry is the study of matter and its interactions with other matter and energy. Here's a guide to how chemistry plays into all aspects of life. A part of the importance of chemistry lies in developing and testing new medical treatments and medicines. Chemistry is at the heart of environmental issues as well. What makes one chemical a nutrient and another chemical a pollutant? How can we clean up the environment? What processes can produce the things we need without harming the environment? Chemistry is important because everything we do is chemistry! Even our body is made of proteins-aminoacids-food. Chemical reactions occur when we breathe, eat, or just sit there reading. It's important to understand chemistry if we are studying any of the sciences because all of the sciences involve matter and the interactions between types of matter.

The principle of Chemistry is one of the important pillars of all scientific and technological developments. Chemistry explains about nano, micro and macro particles. The science behind universe is very well explained through Chemistry. It explains the functioning of automobiles, flying of air vehicles and maga ships movements. Therefore, B.Sc Nautical Science, BE Marine Engineering, BE Naval Architecture, BE Petroleum Engineering, BE Harbour and Offshore Engineering, BE-EEE Marine and Diploma in Naval Architecture incorporated Chemistry in their Curriculum. Learning Chemistry in all the above courses will find more applications in their day today life. The Department of Chemistry strives and formulates Chemistry to all the students in such a way that it is applicable in their respective fields. Our department has five faculty members and one Lab assistant. In our Department, all staff members are holding Ph.D Degree.

In addition to teaching our department staff members guide scholars for PhD programmes. Our department successfully produced nine PhD graduates. The contribution towards research is carried out by publishing large number of research articles in reputed International and National journals. Majority of our staff members participated and presented several research articles in International and National Conferences. Our department conducted two national conferences. The contribution towards the services of the educations is evidenced by acting as resource persons in both Government and Non-Govt Organizations.

In extension services our staff members act as examiners and doctoral member for evaluation of M.Phil, Ph.D of other Universities. They take active part in giving scientific lectures in other Universities including TNSCST and Science city.
