|Year of Establishment
Chemistry taught for B.Sc (NS),B.E.(ME,NA,HE,PE,EEE) and Dip NA & DPE
Profile of the Department
The Department of Chemistry formulates Chemistry syllabus to all the students in such a way that it is applicable in their respective fields. Chemistry is the study of matter and its interactions with energy. Here's a guide to show how Chemistry plays its role in all aspects of life. A part of the importance of Chemistry lies in developing and testing new medical treatments and medicines. Chemistry is at the heart of environmental issues as well. What makes one chemical a nutrient and another chemical a pollutant? How can we clean up the environment? Which processes can produce the goods we need without harming the environment? Even our body is made of chemicals. Chemical reactions occur when we breathe, eat, or sleep. It's important to understand Chemistry if we are studying any of the sciences because all of the sciences involve matter and the interactions between types of matter.
Chemistry is one of the central pillars of all scientific and technological developments. Chemistry explains about nano, micro and macro particles. The science behind universe is very well explained through Chemistry. It explains the functioning of automobiles, air vehicles and mega ships. Therefore, B.Sc., Nautical Science, B.E., Marine Engineering, B.E., Naval Architecture, B.E., Petroleum Engineering, B.E., Harbour and Offshore Engineering, B.E.,-EEE Marine and Diploma in Naval Architecture, Diploma in Petroleum Engineering incorporated Chemistry in their curriculum. Learning Chemistry is highly pertinent to those students in their respective fields. Our department has five teaching members and two Lab assistant.
In our Department, four staff members are holding Ph.D., Degree. Our department produced five Ph.D., graduates. The department published large number of research articles in reputed international and national journals. Majority of our staff members participated and presented several research articles in national conferences.
Specialization of the Department :
Qualitative analysis of water and soil, Preparation of mixed oxide catalysts, Purification of clay minerals and preparation of catalyst from them, Synthesis of heterocycles, Nanoparticles, New cathode materials.
